Language Matters with Rev. Irene Monroe
Thursday, March 29, 6:30 pm
Roslindale Library
The language we use in our daily lives has a direct impact on how we interact with others. This is especially true with the words with use for race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disabilities etc. What is acceptable and what terms change over time? What is the difference between black and African-American? What is Latinx or cisgender? Is it okay to say ‘queer’ and who has permission to say it? Is it more acceptable to say handicapped or persons with disabilities? Renowned theologian and media personality Rev. Irene Monroe will lead a discussion on the nuances of language.
